Chapter 38 - The Guild

The spell dumped us in the city square, in an area that was generally open, which was lucky, since we were quite a large group. Considering things, I said, “All right, ladies. I need to go deliver my gift to the palace, but Della will lead you all to the inn where we’ve been staying. Della, when you get to the room, give them some of the spare traveling clothes I made when I was practicing my skills. That will at least keep them from drawing quite as much attention. After that, we can work out what we’ll do moving forward. Lusha, with me. We’re going to see the Princess.”

With that settled, I led Lusha with me through the streets towards the Palace. The permissions I had been granted after being made a knight were still in place, as I was still in good standing with the kingdom. As I got closer to the palace, I did get some interesting looks because of my ‘gift’, but those with Observe were able to see what was what, so I wasn’t stopped until I actually reached the palace.

Naturally, I was challenged before I could enter the palace. I might be known, and allowed through the building, but guards that don’t at least set checkpoints are bad guards.“What business do you have Sir Zayn?”

“I come bearing tales of success. My party ventured into the Depraved Pits, and conquered the dungeon, slaying a demon’s pawn that had taken residence there. As we were clearing the place out, I discovered this woman, a plaything for the demons, and decided to make her a gift to the Princess Esyae, to do with as she will. Is the princess here, or has she left to train her skills once more?”

The guard laughed, and said, “If only I had found such treasures when I went into the dungeons as a younger man! But you have the devil’s own luck, it is said. The Princess is within. I will send word to her, and one of the guards will guide you.”

I thanked the guard, and followed the junior guardsman who came to lead us through the palace. Eventually, we were led to a private sitting room, and asked to wait until the Princess came. I sat on one of the chairs, and bade Lusha kneel in front of me. A servant came in shortly thereafter, offering me some wine, which I accepted. Elven wine is never something you should turn down, if you have any taste for alcohol at all.

About the time he finished his glass of wine, both Aravae and Esyae entered the room. He smiled, seeing that they had both gotten back up to level 25. As princesses, they had responsibilities he didn’t, of course, and didn’t have as much time for training, so they must have been going out every chance they had. When they entered, he rose, and bowed to them.

Aravae was the first to speak. “So, the guard told us you’ve cleared out a dungeon? And that you brought Esyae a gift? And not one for me?” She pouted, but it was an act.

I chuckled. “I was clearing out the dungeon when I found something that I was sure Esyae would like very much. I didn’t find anything similar for you, but Esyae may want to share the gift with you.” He stepped aside, so that they could get a look at Lusha.

Esyae started, and then had a wicked gleam in her eye. “Oooh, so you caught the insolent wench that thought she could pass herself off as me? She’s got quite a few debts she tried to rack up in my name. And now the bitch is your slave! How’d she end up in the dungeon?”

I gave them both the brief rundown of the dungeon, including how I’d rescued the prisoners from the lowest floor. I also included that I had a fallen knight in my group now, since that would be known before long, in any case.

“So Crana fell to her pride. I guess some time as your pet should give her a proper education.” Aravae shook her head, sadly.

Esyae was ecstatic, however, once I transferred Lusha’s ownership to her. She took a break from whispering the punishments she’d be dishing out to the girl in order to look up at me. “So, you seem to have gained some new titles since we last saw you. Care to explain what they mean?”

I chuckled, and then explained some of the effects of Trophy Hunter, Harem King, and Stud Horse (the last two I’d gotten from my ‘work’ with Shagar). The princesses just shook their heads. Finally, Aravae said, “Honestly, trust an incubus to get titles like that.”

Harem King
You have taken the mantle of a Harem King. As such, your allure is increased, and those who willingly serve you are happier. Those forced to serve you are more likely to become willing.

+10 CHA
+20% to Seduction
Willing harem members +10% Morale bonus to all actions (stacks with other bonuses).
Unwilling harem members -20% morale penalty to resist attempts to make them willing members.

Stud Horse
You have a reputation for having strong blood. Those seeking to add strength to their bloodlines may seek you out. Those you lie with are more likely to become pregnant thanks to the magic of your blood. You may even be able to impregnate nonhumanoid creatures. You may also be used as a scapegoat for those seeking to cover up their own misdeeds.

+420 Fame
+440 Infamy
+5% chance that females of childbearing age may seek you out as a stud.
+25% chance that any ‘unplanned’ or out of wedlock pregnancies in your area will be blamed on you.
Can impregnate any creature of the Humanoid, Magical Beast, Dragon, Outsider, Fey, and Undead types at the normal rate for his race.

I shrugged. “What can I say, I’ve been busy.” That got a laugh from both princesses. We chatted for a bit more, mostly small talk, and then as I took my leave, the princesses promised to have someone come to the inn to check on the former prisoners.

(Later)
I’d just gotten back to the inn, and immediately noticed that most of the ladies I’d come here with were off in one corner, looking anxious at the crowd that was in the common room. The only one missing was Yukiko, who was with the crowd, which meant the strange lot were Travelers. They hadn’t noticed me yet, so I went over to the girls. Best sort this out first.

I sat down at the table with Brylres, Shagar, and the elf sisters, and said, “Well, ladies, I’ve had a chat with the Princess, and someone will be coming along to check on things, and help out how they can. Brylres, Shagar, if you want, they will have a mage transport you to one of the capitols. And you three,” I turned to the elf sisters, “I can tell you that they’ll at least try to help you get back on your feet here. They were shocked to hear what had been happening in that place.”

Brylres nodded. “That’d be for the best, I think. I’ll not be getting any armor here that is better than what I can make once I get to the clan forges, and I wouldn’t go traveling without a weapon and armor.”

Shagar looked upset. “I do not wish to leave you, but my duty to the tribe is clear. I should return.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll come visit as soon as I am able. I am a Traveler, after all. And I suspect I’ll be traveling a good deal, until I can complete the quest Brylres gave me.”

The sisters looked like they were about to speak, but then Yukiko’s voice sounded behind me. “Master, we have some guests that have traveled a long way to join us.”

I turned, and saw a dark elf maiden in a ranger’s getup, with twin scimitars and a bow. From the grin on Yukiko’s face, I had a feeling this would be interesting.

Lexichan do’Urden
Dark Elf Female
Level 30 Ranger / Barbarian
Titles: Hunter, Tempest, Daywalker, Undead Bane

I looked askance at the drowess, and chuckled. “So, you finally made that tribute character you were always talking about, Lexichan?”

Lexichan grinned, and said, “You know it, boss. Anyways, I gathered almost fifty of the old crowd. You just gotta give the word, and the guild is back, and ready to see what this world has to offer.” And with that, she handed me a bag containing the 100 gold needed to start a guild.

Opening the interface, I went to the area to register a guild. After paying the fees, I was able to create the name, and the symbol for the guild. Then I’d just need at least 11 others to sign on before the guild became official. I’d thought about what to call this guild, since ‘Lords of Light’ was out, due to us going dark side. In the end, I decided on something that was symbolic of our path, but not something that would just scream “Pallys come gank us” like ‘Demons’ or some crazy shit like that.

‘Aria of the Twilight’ would be the guild name, and our symbol would be a silver skull gripping a red rose in its teeth, set upon a black field. With a wave, I sent the invites to all the travelers in the room, and to the NPCs I was familiar with. Brylres shook her head, and declined, which I nodded to, expecting that, but Shagar, the three sisters, and my slaves all accepted, along with the Travelers.

Guild: Aria of the Twilight

Leader: Zayn Darkmore
Subleader: Lexichan do’Urden

There, I’d fill in the rest later, but for now, I set the guild tax as 10% of the gold people got from monster drops. This would help fund the building of a guild hall. I stood, and said, “All right, people. Now that we’ve got our guild again, I say we make this city our base. But that’s boring talk for later. Right now, it is almost time for the midday meal, so I say it is time for drinks, and a feast!” I held up my drink, and said, “To the Aria of the Twilight! First round is on me!”

Cheers echoed my call, especially the part about free beer. Never failed.

(Much Later)
There were introductions, and drinks, and stories told of our adventures in this world, as well as in WoD. Before the end, the crowd had grown to standing room only, as other NPCs and Travelers came to hear some of our stories. It was only after the evening meal that people began settling down, and heading to their homes, while the members of Aria found rooms for the night.

Before long, it was just me, my pets, and the core of the old Lords: Lexichan, the drow ranger; Bercilac, the gnome rogue; Raunaeril, the baby dragon flame sorcerer; Cookie, the human fighter; and Ruva, the Medusa monk. Reunited after all this time, we raised a glass together, and the conversation turned to friendly matters.

It was Ruva who started it. “So, Yukiko, you finally worked up the nerve to spread for the guild master, huh?”

Yukiko blushed, and said, “It wasn’t like that! I-I mean, it wasn’t all like that. If I’d known who he was in this game, I would have sent a message. But I started off a slave because of my qualities.”

Severa chuckled, and said, “So that’s why you were spending every moment you could bending over for Master, hoping he’d take you first?” There were more laughs at Yukiko’s expense.

Ruva broke in again, ‘looking’ at my pets. Between her snakes and her monk training, apparently she’d gotten a Blindsense-related title, so she could ‘see’ without taking off her blindfold. “So, I assume all you girls have had the pleasure. Tell me, is he really as big as the stories we’ve been hearing say?”

The girls looked at eachother, and giggled, before looking back to Ruva. “Bigger.”

I shrugged, and said, “I may have gotten a little carried away during character creation.”

Yukiko giggled. “A little?”

Lexichan, Cookie, and Ruva looked at eachother, and then turned to me. “Let us see!”

I sighed, dramatically. “I’ll let you see, but on one condition. You pick one of you three to ‘test drive’ it for the rest of the night, while the others watch.”

What followed was a very spirited game of rock-paper-scissors. And Ruva won.

Chapter 37 - Exorcism of Pride

New Quest: Betrayer’s Due

Bylres Hardbottle was betrayed by her comrades in the adventuring party Moradin’s Hammer, and left to be enslaved by the demon Neozhur and his pawn, Jynerra. She now asks your aid in gaining her revenge.

You do not capture or kill the adventurers.
You do not return with proof of death or prisoners.
Give up the quest.
Rewards

Increased Reputation with Brudrinen Empire
Increased Reputation with Hardbottle Clan

Decreased Reputation with Hardbottle Clan

I looked at the quest, and then sighed, nodding. “I will do what I can, but if your companions are anywhere near your level, it will be quite some time before I would be able to subdue them on my own.”

Bylres nodded. “That is fine. After this, I won’t be able to venture freely to hunt them myself. By the time I gather materials for my new weapons and armor, and purify myself from what I’ve experienced here, you may well be of a level to assist me. You adventurers advance quickly, after all, due to not fearing death.”

“Well, it isn’t that we don’t fear death, but that death has no permanent effect upon us. No one seeks death, but knowing that it is not the end can allow one to face it with a clear heart.”

The dwarf nodded. “Well said indeed.”

We lapsed into silence as I continued my play with Wench, using the Tamer’s Whip on Wench’s naked body. Because the whip healed most of the damage it dealt on each strike, I could use it on her repeatedly, whipping the demon’s naked body as much as I wished. The pain was real, though, and because of my orders, Wench couldn’t move from the pose I’d put her in, with her legs apart and her hands on top of her head.

“You know, Wench, there is a way to end this. Just beg to satisfy me, and the whipping will end. And you will get to try and earn your name again. Or maybe I’ll just march you into town naked. Wouldn’t that be fun?”

(Later)
According to the game clock, it has been twenty-three hours since I started the humiliations I’ve piled upon Wench in order to fulfill the conditions for the ritual that will turn her back into an elf. In that time, she’s been stripped, un-named, had items inserted in various parts of her body, whipped, insulted, and forced to pleasure some of my girls, in increasingly more humiliating acts. She even got to spend some time as a toilet. And all the time, I told her that if she just begged to satisfy me, things would get better.

Finally, she broke down. Oh, the fact that I hadn’t fed her or given her anything to drink while everyone else (even the fake princess) got some probably had an effect as well. With eyes that were full of shame and rage, she looked at me, and said, “Master.” She still hated calling me that. “M-may I please you?”

“Beg for it.”

She gritted her teeth, and then said, “Please master, let me pleasure you, I beg of you!”

“Good Wench. You can start by sucking me off. Do a good job, and I’ll let you move on. But you do badly, and I’ll sell you to a brothel when we get back.” OK, so that was a lie. I wasn’t actually going to sell her, but she didn’t need to know that.

On her knees in front of me, she pulled out my cock, and I smiled when her eyes went wide at the sight. She might have gotten glimpses earlier, when we were back on Jynerra’s floor, but now it was out in the open, and in her face. Wench gulped, and then reached out and began with licking up and down my length, trying to get some lubrication on there, anything to make it easier on herself later.

Reaching down, I placed my hand on her head, and said, “Take it in your mouth now, Wench. I want your chin to hit my balls.” That brought a look of fear into her eyes, but she did as she was told, opening her lips to take the head of my cock into her mouth. And then slowly, she began dipping her head up and down on my rod, trying her best to go further each time. There were tears in her eyes as she finally managed it, and then I pulled her off before she choked to death.

She fell back, her eyes dazed, though she had done a good job of lubing my shaft. I looked down at her, and said, “That was merely decent. Beg for it. Face down, ass up, and beg for it like a slut.”

I’m pretty sure she was still halfway out of it, as she looked shellshocked, but she rolled over onto her hands and knees, and put her face in the dirt, her rear raised up, presenting herself to me. “Please Master, fuck your slut!”

And who was I to refuse a request like that?

(Later)
Twenty-four hours of humiliation and stripping her of her pride. Now Wench lay there, still on her hands and knees with my seed trailing from both her holes. She was thoroughly senseless at this point, as I’d not been gentle (though Della did make sure she stayed alive). Now, I needed to conduct the ritual.

In the ground, I drew the pattern her notes prescribed, a pentagram inscribed in a circle, with her in the middle. I began chanting in the tongue of demons. It was a condemnation of one for betrayal to their ‘blessing’, and a call to the powers to remove the blessing now. Fire rose up from the circle, but I could see that these were phantom flames. They did not cause damage to flesh, and even the ground remained unburnt. But they would burn the soul. Wench was screaming as the flames torched her soul, searing away the changes wrought by making her a Pride Demon.

It takes a damn hour of chanting and using my mana to fuel the phantom flames to burn the demonic taint out of Wench’s body and soul, but finally the ritual is over. I can’t help but think that there may have been an easier way to go about it, but then, this ritual was devised by a demon as a punishment for traitors, not as a merciful way to remove demonic taint from someone. So she really has only herself to blame.

As the phantom flames died, I said, “Very well, Wench. Now you may have your name, Nithroel Crana, back again.

Nithroel Crana
Half-Celestial Elf Female
Level 30 Blackguard / Priest
Titles: Genius, Fallen One, Slave, Broken One, Masochist

So, with the loss of being a Pride Demon (and becoming a slave), she lost the ‘Proud One’ and ‘Knight’ titles, and it seems she got some new titles.

Genius
Some people are smart. One holding this title is almost always the smartest person in the room. But know that there is a difference between intelligence and wisdom.

+20 INT
+2 INT per Level

Fallen One
One who was once a paragon of virtue and nobleness has been corrupted by evil.

+400 Infamy
-200 Fame

Slave
Slaves have no rights, but what their master gives them. You are not a person, you are property.

Loss of all Fame/Infamy.
Social status becomes Slave.

Broken One
Humiliations and Tortures have cause you to break. You can try to piece yourself back together, but you will always be easier to break than one who has yet to be broken. Still, there are some who prefer imperfections in their prizes.

-25% resistance to Charm effects.
-25% resistance to Interrogation.
-25% resistance to Seduction.
+20 CHA

Masochist
Pain is pleasure and pleasure is pain.

Gain Hurts So Good Quality.

Interesting. So Qualities could be gained through in-game actions? I’d have to check the forums, and see if any other Qualities-as-Titles had been discovered.

As I dressed, I came to a decision. Since everyone other than my party would be walking, it didn’t make sense to make the trek back. I could use the Dark Portal spell to open a portal for us back to Mylenoris, but the dark shrine there was underground, which would prove an issue for the horses. Not insurmountable, since the stairs were plenty wide enough, but it would be an inconvenience for everyone.

Fortunately, the sisters had a solution, it seemed. Even though she was an Earth Sorceress, Duru had picked up the spell ‘Recall’ which could teleport a group to the last city or town the caster visited. It was a useful, if somewhat limited, spell, since it would allow people to return from dungeons or far afield in an instant, but was always restricted to the last city or town you’d visited, so it couldn’t be easily used as a means of transport.

With that decided, we gathered all the people and animals together, and activated the spell. With a flash of light, we were gone.

(Elsewhere)
It was quite a site that greeted the eyes of the guards standing watch at the gates of Mylenoris that morning. At least thirty riders approached the gates. All were clearly adventurers girded with weapons and armor for long travels in the wilds. But what was strange wasn’t their raiment, but the makeup of the company. Men and women. Elves, humans, dwarves, and even an undead! There were other monsters amongst their number, too: a Medusa with her eyes covered by a cloth, a pair of harpies flying alongside a baby dragon, and several elementals also moved in and through the strange procession.

As one, the warrior band (for there could really be no other way to describe such a company) halted before the gates. The guards, gripped their sword hilts as a woman advanced from the rest of the group. She was a Dark Elf, with ebony skin and long white hair. She was quite shapely, as was normal for elves, but the armor she wore was that of a ranger from the surface, and she had a pair of scimitars hanging from her belt, with a hunting bow strapped to her back.

She paused when she was a few feet from the guards, and said, in a clear voice, “Hail! I am Lexichan do’Urden, and I lead this company for the moment. We wish to enter the city.”

The guard captain, seeing that this wasn’t immediately going to result in violence, said, “And what business does a Dark Elf have in Mylenoris, surrounded by such a varied and warlike company? We don’t often see your lot around here.” The way he almost spat out ‘your lot’, like it was a bitter tasting root, left no doubt about the tensions between the surface elves and their dark kin.

But Lexichan was not disturbed by this. “We are Travelers from another world. The man who led us in that other world has come to these lands, and we seek to join him once again. Behind me are forty-one warriors who once pledged ourselves to our leader, and we have ridden far to join him.”

“And who is this ‘leader’ of yours?”

Lexichan chuckled, and said, “He is known by many names, but here you would know him best as Zayn Darkmore, Knight of the Realm, and the one who escorted the Princesses Aravae and Esyae to safety when they had been waylaid by cultists in foreign lands. He was our leader in the other world, and now we have come to follow him again.”

Chapter 26 - Trade Chat

When I logged off to take care of RL business and edit my videos for streaming, I found that the game forums were going crazy with the recent events. I logged in with my conflict.net account, the same one I’d been using during the WoD days. I hadn’t really posted much since joining AAO, in no small part because back when I first made my account for WoD, I named my conflict.net account I_am_Torgan. Real creative, I know.

Anyways, it seemed that the ‘adventures of Zayn’ were becoming something of a legend on the forums, if some of the popular topics were any clue.

Lv 10 noclass walked into town with HAREM! – Some level 5s apparently spotted him walking into town with the girls, and saw two of them were slaves. There was a lot of discussion, including a report from one guy who asked the guards about it. Which was how people found out I was traveling with two slaves and a pair of princesses.
Harem slaves in Fathon? – More of the same, people watching me as I paraded my girls about town. Also there was a threat from Z.Void to find me and punish me in the name of righteousness, posted just before she came to find me.
DUDE! Check out Chainbreaker vs. Chainmaker fight! – This was one of my favorites. A Traveler had been in a nearby shop and recorded my fight with Zephara in nice detail. A couple mages talked about how I had to be a Reincarnator, to have that skill level. They didn’t know how to do subtle casting.
Chainmaker streams! Sick footage! – Someone found my streams on the pay site (I used a different username there from when I was Torgan), and put up a link. I checked real quick, and I’d gotten a solid uptick ever since that thread.
Chainbreaker really brothel slave! – This one seemed to be a review of Zephara’s ‘services’ in the brothel. She was apparently quite popular with the other players, as well as the guards.
Aww, Chainbreaker’s gone! – Three men apparently came and bought Zephara, and they left the brothel that day. Then I saw a list of people saying that Zephara had killed them. At the top of the list was the guy who gave her that first ‘review’.
First Guild! – Oh, now this was interesting. After Zephara went on her little killing spree, she got enough people together to form that guild. And while there was a lot of ranting about me, and other ‘evils to be purged’, they did respond to questions about how to form a guild. Apparently, you needed at least twelve people to sign the charter, and a hundred gold pieces. Since that was less than ten gold each, that wasn’t too bad. Just needed to go to the City Hall (or local equivalent) of any starter city or capitol to do it. Good to know when I started getting my own guild together.
Scions UNITE! – Aw, this was precious! The little idiots were actually recruiting people, in the name of ‘light and justice’ to form a crusade against me, in the hopes that news of this would reach Torgan, wherever he was in AAO, and he would come to lead them like he had the Lords of Light. I was tempted, so very tempted to comment in the forum there, but this needed to be something I did face to face.

Finally, I saw something that really interested me. An open chat room focused on the most recent announcement. I entered anonymously, of course.

<Anonymous4 has entered the chat.>
Anonymous, Anonymous2, Anonymous5, DeathCaller, Light_Makes_Right, Clarion, l33tPally, Z.Void, Killjoy, Dragonborn, Ocarina, Bercilac, Raunaeril, Lexichan, CookieCrisp, Darksider are in the chat.

DeathCaller: How did that bastard get a knighthood so quickly?
l33tPally: hax! Hax! Hez haxxor for realz!
Killjoy: He obviously had a quest involving those two Princesses he walked into town with.
Ocarina: Where’d he meet them? They were smoking!
Dragonborn: I got the story from the guard. Zayn rescued them from cultists that were going to sacrifice them. That’s where he got his two slaves, too!
Darksider: How’d he manage that on the first IRL day?
Anonymous4: The tutorial scales to match the skills of the player.
Light_Makes_Right: Wait, you’re saying that he got a badass quest chain straight out of tutorial?
l33tPally: HAX! Gotta be hax! No one’s that good!
Anonymous: Guy’s probably Reincarnated. You give up your WoD toon, you can get OP fast, from what I’ve heard.
Anonymous2: No way, there’s people who actually did that? How could you give up all that work?
Lexichan: Some did. I can confirm that 80% of the Lords of Light have Reincarnated.
Z.Void: Wait, you’re Lexichan, the ranger from LoL, right? Can you get us in touch with Torgan? We need him to lead us in this new world!
Brecilac: The Guild Master isn’t a pet to come when called.
CookieCrisp: He always came when I rang the dinner bell.
Lexichan: GODS came when you rang the dinner bell!
Z.Void: Fine, we’ll find him the hard way, and get him to make us the top guild in AAO, and purge the evil from the land. In the name of Torgan!

<Anonymous4 is now I_am_Torgan>
I_am_Torgan: Thou shalt not take my name in vain.
Raunaeril: And the lord speaks!
Lexichan: Was wondering how long you were going to hide before appearing on the forums again.
Brecilac: WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? I’ve had to deal with Raunaeril all by myself!
CookieCrisp: Have you been eating well?
Z.Void: Please, Torgan! There is evil in AAO! We must purge it! Starting with Zayn!
I_am_Torgan: Yep, I was busy in game. Lots of craziness.
Clarion: Did you really reincarnate?
I_am_Torgan: Yes. Though I decided to use a different name this time. I had sixteen years of Torgan, and it was time for something new.
Brecilac: I’ve got a feeling…
Lexichan: Oh boy.
CookieCrisp: Hehe!
Z.Void: What is it? Can I send you a friend request?
I_am_Torgan: The name is Zayn Darkmore.
l33tPally: WHAT?
Darksider: LOL!
Light_Makes_Right: HAHAHAHA!
Z.Void: NO! How could the hero of WoD be that villain in AAO? I won’t believe it! Don’t worry Torgan, we’ll save you!

<Z.Void has left the chat.>
<Anonymous is now Tauriel.>
Ocarina: So, you decided to become a villain for this game?
I_am_Torgan: Yep! Been having a ton of fun, too. And Yes, Cookie, I’ve been eating well. I took a cooking-related Quality as one of my qualities when I reincarnated.
CookieCrisp: Oooh! What is it?
I_am_Torgan: How To Serve Women. It gave me the Dolcett Cookbook.
CookieCrisp: *DIES*
Raunaeril: Only you…
Lexichan: Hehe.
I_am_Torgan: Oh, and Yukiko is with me, too. I’m thinking of putting the band back together. But instead of Gospel, we’re going Metal.
Brecilac: Oh-hoh! That’s what I’ve been hanging out here to see!
Lexichan: You’re in the Wyrmwood, right?
I_am_Torgan: Yeah, gonna hang out here, and build up for a while. If any of you guys can make it to Wyrmwood, shout. We get 12, and I’ll start the guild again.
CookieCrisp: So, what about the Scions?
I_am_Torgan: Oh, Z.Void and company have a few things to learn. Level up, gear up, skill up, and then we’ll do them worse than those scrubs in Demonfang!
I_am_Torgan: Now, I’m out! Spread the word to the other Lords: If they’re going darkside, come to me. If they’re staying lightside, well, no hard feelings when we crush you.

<I_am_Torgan has left the chat.>

With that, I left the forum part of the site, and began checking the auction houses. I would be grinding skills for a while, and that included trade skills. If I could sell things through the auction house, that would be awesome. After a bit of description, I was pleased to see that the auction house on the site was linked to the one in the game, and covered all realms. Auction houses were located in each capitol city, but the winnings (either in gold or items) came to you directly, minus the auction fees.

I was also happy to see that they’d decided to leave real-money transfers out of the game, at least for now. Sure, I was OP, but I’d earned that with Torgan. That was sixteen years worth of investment right there! Some prick just starting out but using daddy’s money to buy the equivalent of Zayn really pissed me off.

Before logging off to go get some food IRL, I grinned, and sent a message to Brecy and the others. If we didn’t meet before then in game, we’d meet in September, at DragonCon. That gave people time to adjust schedules, and to find costumes, if they wanted. Mark didn’t have talent as a costumer, but thanks to advancements in technology, he was able to send a render of Zayn to a costume shop and they were able to quote him a price on the costume, makeup, and prosthetics. A quick check of the balance said that the streams had been doing really well, so he hit Buy. This was going to be awesome.

(Elsewhere)
They gathered in a warehouse in the capitol of Ograin, Duskhorn. There were fifty of them. Some Travelers, some freemen. There were even a couple escaped slaves. In the candlelight, they knelt, side by side, dressed in robes of white. Before them was an altar, behind which was a statue of a man, twice living size. This was the being they called to, they prayed to. The one that would save them, save the world. The one that would purge the darkness that had seeped into every corner like a cancer.

Behind the altar, a woman appeared. Once, she had been lovely, with long red hair, and a face that would make men swoon and women green with envy. Now, her hair had been cut close, leaving her with a boyish looking cut. Her face was marred by scars gained during her time in the whorehouse. If one could see under her white robes, more scars would be crossing her back, and there were garish piercings in both nipples and one between her legs. She could have used the magic of travelers to restore themselves after death to remove most of those problems, but she chose to keep them as a sign of her resolve. If one used observe on her, they would see this:

Zephara Void
Human Female
Level 20 Flame Sorceress
Titles: Chainbreaker, Former Slave, Broken One

When she had been freed, her ‘Slave’ title had changed to ‘Former Slave’. During the days of confinement and rape, somewhere around the 100th customer, she had received the Broken One title. She hated to admit, but even now, it felt odd not having something inside her. She knew the feeling would fade in time, but still, she hated it. She especially hated the fact that the title came with a permanent -25% debuff against Charm spells. She would be weak against one of her greatest enemy’s strengths. She would have to persevere. The light needed her.

Looking over the people, she began speaking. “Listen to me now, people of the light! Through our magics, we have discovered why our lord has not come to join us in cleansing this land of its blight. A portion of his essence has been chained within a Traveler in this world, corrupting him!”

She paused, and said, “We must find the one who has corrupted the Lord’s essence! If we are to succeed in purging the corruption of this world, we must first purge the corruption of this Traveler. We must free the essence of the Lord and purify it, with light and flame. We must cut down the creatures around him, who have helped in corrupting the Lord’s essence!”

“The rot has grown deeper. The Enemy of the Light, this one who has blighted our Lord’s essence, has taken refuge in the elven kingdom of the Wyrmwood, and is corrupting their leaders, turning them against the Light. Already, we have received notice that some amongst us are to be slain on sight by the elves. This is a sign, my brothers and sisters! The Enemy knows us, and is afraid! That is why he hides, and gathers his defenses. BUT IT WILL AVAIL HIM NOT!”

As she spoke, her tone rose, until now she was speaking loudly, almost yelling, and the candlelight shone red in her eyes, or was that some magic at work?

“WE ARE THE SCIONS OF TORGAN! WE ARE THE BEARERS OF LIGHT! TOGETHER WE SHALL PURGE THIS WORLD OF ALL THAT SULLIES IT, AND A PURE WORLD WILL RISE FROM THE ASHES! FROM THE RUIN OF THIS WORLD OF SIN, WE SHALL BUILD A WORLD WITHOUT SIN! IN THE NAME OF THE LIGHT! IN THE NAME OF TORGAN!”

“BY THE FIRE BE PURGED!”

And the crowd answered back, “BY THE FIRE BE PURGED!”

Chapter 25 - Meeting the King

Author's Note:
I tried darkening the tables some in this chapter. Like the look, and it is easier to read, so I'll be going back to fix it in the other chapters.

------------------------------------------------------

I can honestly say that meeting the king of the elves was NOT something I was expecting to do anytime soon in this game. After all, you generally had to do some important quests to get a royal audience (or screw up REALLY badly). I’d saved the princesses, but that was about it. And I was still only level 14. So yeah.

The portal deposited us in the courtyard of what could only be a palace in an Elven kingdom. Given that it was literally grown into the middle of the largest tree I’d ever seen, with several other trees nearby serving as ‘towers’ connected to it. Bridges and stairways and balconies could be seen popping out or running along the trunk in several places.

I whistled softly as Haldir led us up through the main entrance in what I’m going to call the prime tree. “No matter what world I’m in, I never get tired of elven architecture.”

The Princesses chuckled as they walked in front of me, and Aravae turned to glance at me as we walked. “Been in many elven palaces, have you?”

I smiled at her, and said, “In another world, sure. Perhaps sometime I’ll tell you about the raid on the Midnight Palace of the Drow Queen we went on.”

Talk faded away to quiet work, however, as we began walking up a set of stairs spiraling about the prime tree. Of course the elf king would have his throne way up the tree. Makes perfect sense. And walking up fifty flights-worth of steps is no big, really. Ok, lying there. Even with virtual stamina, we had to pause a couple times (using convenient platforms) to rest on our way up the tree. I was certain that there was an easier way up, but it was probably tradition or something to have visitors walk.

FINALLY we made it to the top! And find ourselves in some kind of reception chamber. I noticed what looked for all the world like a fantasy-themed transporter pad from those old sci-fi shows. I was right, and there was a faster way up! All that useless walking!

Esyae must have noticed where I was looking, because she said, “That is a transport pad, which is linked to others throughout the palace, as well as at the foot of the tree. But you have to be linked to this one first before you can use any of them. It is a safety feature.”

Well, that made perfect sense. Most people would not get to use it, but it would provide a quick means of getting around the palace for those linked into the system. And keeping it locked so that one had to access the most secure one first before any of them worked for you meant that someone couldn’t just transport an army into the throne room. And long before someone could march their army up the stairs, the royal family would be able to prepare defenses, or scatter and run. Ah well, can’t argue with an efficient defense, I suppose.

Without further ado, we were led into the throne room, where a herald announced us in a booming voice.

“The Princess Aravae Liarora and the Princess Esyae Liarora, with Lord Haldir Morkas, Defender of the Realm, and their retinue!”

Well, yeah, expected as much. We haven’t been introduced to the court yet. Probably more ceremony crap. I followed the Princesses and Haldir until we were about ten feet from the king. The elves bowed, so I followed suit, and my pets followed my lead. We hadn’t been briefed on protocol, probably intentionally so they could get a read on us.

When I rose, I took a minute to observe the throne room. Set into the heart of the tree, the walls were painted white, and studded with glass that reflected light, and there were a series of orbs on the ceiling that glowed with an inner light, casting a soft light over the room. The throne for the King and Queen were made of wood, and looked as though they had been grown from the floor (and for all I knew they had been), with twisting branches that created a beautiful and unique chair, with cushions on it for comfort.

Avourel Liarora
High Elf Male
Level 200 Paladin (Lightbearer), Fighter (Weaponmaster)
Titles: King of the Wyrmwood, Defender of the Realm, Lord of Light, Faithful of the Elf-Father, Protector of the Innocent, Undead Bane, Demonbane

Vanya Carcan Liarora
Winged Elf Female
Level 200 Sorceress (Mindbender), Rogue (Assassin)
Titles: Queen of the Wyrmwood, Bane of Kilfall, Mystic Blade, Pleasant Death, Keeper of Secrets

The King and Queen sat on their thrones, and both were stunningly beautiful, as only elves can be, dressed in white robes with silver crowns up on their heads, the king’s blond hair contrasting nicely with his Queen’s black hair. What I did notice is that they were not ‘common’ elves, but had become more. I’d heard on the forums that there were racial advancement quests, but they were hard to find. The rewards, however, were clearly worth it. The King was far more stately than other elves, a little taller, more presence, more statuesque, that kind of thing. The Queen, on the other hand, and a pair of black feathered wings sprouting from her back like those of a raven. Very useful for someone who is both sorceress and assassin.

But I didn’t have time for in depth analysis, as the king began speaking in Elvish. “My daughters, Merethyl came and told me of what had befallen you, but I did not think it could be true. It saddens me that you had to endure such misfortune. We have communicated Our displeasure to the Kingdom of Ograin for allowing those terror cultists to establish themselves to such an extent. It is good to see that you have both returned home safely.”

He then looked at me, and said, “And who is this you have brought with you? I had heard that your savior was an Incubus but I did not expect that you would bring one bearing the taint of evil deeds before us.”

Aravae spoke up in my defense, fortunately, “Father, Zayn is a Traveler, and though his ways may prove evil at times, they have without doubt been effective. From my observations, he is not the kind to commit wanton acts of terror, but one for whom any action is acceptable, provided it advances his goals. I have personally seen him take those who attacked him as slaves, and yet release slaves who may have been a great boon to his works and ask for no reward in return, save perhaps a promise not to attack those under his protection.”

Esyae also chimed in, saying, “His ways are strange, but he had it in his power to enslave us and do whatever he wished, yet he did not, for the simple reason that he said he would bring us home. In Gepheart, a corrupt mayor put out a bounty upon a member of the Mage Guild in order to force her into marriage, and rather than simply comply with the request, he found a way to not only complete the quest, but also give the woman a chance to end the mayor’s threats once and for all.”

“And in battle, he is quick and efficient with his commands, and sends people where they need to be. His leadership and skill has allowed us to fight and defeat foes that were superior to us both in numbers and levels. His methods may be evil, but he is controlled in his actions, not losing himself as others might.”

Aravae cut in again, saying, “I believe that Zayn is a man who honors his word and his contracts above all else. If he says he will do something, he shall do it, by any means necessary, or fail in the attempt. If someone should prove false to him, either in the wording of a contract or by attempting to cheat him, then he shall do anything within the letter of that contract to ensure that they never do so again.”

The king considered for a moment, and then nodded his head. “Very well. As you have both spoken for him, and he has proven faithful in his dealings so far, I shall allow him and his to remain.” He paused, and then spoke in the Common tongue, “Zayn Darkmore, step forward.”

I moved forward, and bowed, before saying, in Elvish, “May the days of your reign be filled with peace, Your Majesty.”

The King looked surprised, but the Queen laughed, and said, “We thought you were following that conversation a little too closely.” Looking to her husband, she said, “Careful, dear, these Travelers are more than they appear to be. Their experiences from another world have taught them many things. Some for good and some for ill.”

The King laughed, and said, “So be it. Zayn Darkmore, you have done this kingdom a great service by saving the lives of Our daughters, and escorting them safely home. You have done this without any promise of status or reward, nor have you been charged to do so by a higher power. For this, We give Our thanks. We offer you a choice of a reward fitting your deeds in return. Choose wisely.”

I took a moment to consider, and then said, “Your Majesty, the only rewards I could ask of you is that you give me and those of my train permission to travel through your lands as I will, save for areas that a citizen of your lands may not enter, and for us to be able to practice our crafts and trades as any of your people might, and I ask for access to the royal libraries, so that I might learn all that this world has to offer.” On the face of it, it was a humble request. But being able to travel freely and having a license to conduct business were things that start small, but have unlimited potential. Same with the library. Think back in all those games. How many times are secret quests, hidden lore, and the location of ancient treasures locked away in the archives of the royal library? Not to mention potential recipes and more.

The King smiled, as he no doubt guessed my intentions. “A shrewd and honest answer. You seek little in the present for greater gains down the road. Too few have such wisdom. Very well, We shall grant your requested reward. Come forward and kneel.”

Oh, looks like being smart got me bonus points! I did as I was commanded, though, and knelt before the throne. The king drew his sword, and placed it upon my shoulder. “I, King Avourel Liarora of the Wyrmwood do grant thee, Zayn Darkmore, permission to travel the lands under my reign and conduct your business according to the laws of the land, and do name you a Knight of the Realm. Rise, Sir Darkmore.”

Status Upgrade!

Your status has changed from ‘Traveler’ to ‘Knight’! As a Knight, you are allowed to freely carry weapons in most lands, and may receive priority quests. Your reputation with NPCs favorable to Wyrmwood increases. Your reputation with NPCs antagonistic to Wyrmwood decreases. You have the right to be called ‘Sir’, and are considered minor nobility. You are expected to be loyal to the Wyrmwood.

+210 Fame (Raised from 200)

A moment after that, another couple window popped up, in front of every player logged in.

World First!

Zayn Darkmore is the first Traveler to rise to the nobility. Sir Zayn Darkmore is now a Knight of the Wyrmwood, and a representative of that kingdom.

Guild War!

Because they declared war upon the player Zayn Darkmore, the Scions of Torgan guild is now at war with the Wyrmwood, and considered kill on sight within their borders. All players who kill a member of the Scions of Torgan within the Wyrmwood gain 100 Fame, and do not gain Infamy for the deed.

Ha! Sucks to be them! With a smile, I rose, and bowed to the King. “My thanks to you, my Liege.” And then I stepped back with the others.

The Queen smiled, and said, “You all must be tired from your journey. There are chambers prepared for you, Sir Darkmore, where you and your companions may refresh yourselves, and We request your attendance at dinner tonight.”

“It would be my honor, Your Majesty.” And as that was a dismissal in all but name, I bowed again, and made my way out of the throne room.

In the receiving room, a page showed us to the pad, and I used my blood to link me into the system. It was a simple system, actually. A closed network of teleporters, and it didn’t work for any free person that didn’t have their blood in the system, even if they were in a party with someone who was. But since slaves were considered property, so long as I was linked in, my pets could come with me, as the slave magic linked us. Simple, but complex at the same time.

With that taken care of, we activated the teleporter, to go to the tree that housed guest residences.
